Woodhead Tunnel Painting

Longdendale Trail, Peak District

I painted this picture of Woodhead Tunnel, at the end of the Longdendale Train in the Peak District a few years ago now – it’s one of the rare occasions I actually had time to paint from life. It’s an unusual angle – usually when people think of Woodhead Tunnel they think of… well, a tunnel, but the tunnel was at my back while I painted this, and the late summer sun was beaming down over the Pennines.
