Medicine – Gustav Klimt Tribute

I love Gustav Klimt – I think it’s the touch of the magical the creeps around the edges of his work. Many moons ago, I painted a lady with loooong red hair – I called her My Danaë and if you look closely, you can see some Klimt embellishments. Medicine is my favourite Klimt masterpiece, so I’ve added some nods to the master in my latest painting. There’s the gold snake, the vial, which in Klimt’s medicine is a bowl, and then there’s the red pendant to represent life blood. Oh, and of course, the curtain behind her is directly lifted from Klimt’s painting. I loved painting this. And the timing seems apt what with the whole Covid-19 treatment palaver.
